You received an SSN Data error for one of three reasons:

  1. The SSN field for an employee was left blank. The employee’s Social Security number is required in order to correctly process your 1095-Cs.
  2. The field contains less than 9 characters. Make sure to verify the SSN against your company data or check with your employee. The SSN must contain exactly 9 numbers. Review the file and make sure leading zeroes were not dropped from your data. It may be necessary to adjust the cell format to prevent this (see Formatting Requirements for Social Security Numbers).
  3. The data is formatted incorrectly. The SSN can be formatted with or without dashes, but must not contain spaces or additional characters.
  4. Acceptable SSN formats include: 123-45-6789 OR 123456789
  5. The data contains sequential numbers.  SSN Cannot be equal to sequential numbers such as 123456789, 234567890, 012345678, etc.
  6. The data contains all repeating digits.  SSN cannot be all same digits, such as all 111111111, 555555555, 999999999, etc.

Once you have verified and corrected the SSN information, resubmit your data file.
